CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE: Magic Bullet Records Adds Reissue Of Classic 7” To 20th Anniversary Release Roster

As part of Magic Bullet Records’ 20th anniversary celebrations, the label is proud to announce another installment in the CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE reissue project, this time in the form of the “4010” b/w “Away” 7” originally issued on Freewill Records in 1994.

During a brief run of less than three years (1993-1996), CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE managed to turn punk on its head via their trademark (and often imitated) sound that holds up to this day. Everyone from Jimmy Eat World to The Get Up Kids to Texas Is The Reason has cited the influence of the band on both their bands and what became known as “emo” at large, with Alternative Press going so far as to name the CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE as one of “13 Bands that Became Legends in Four years or Less” (2010) AND “23 Bands Who Shaped Punk” (2007).

Out of print for many years, the emo/punk classic “4010” b/w “Away” 7” is back with brand new artwork and a choice of either classic black or clear vinyl. Both sides are spun at 45 rpm for maximum fidelity. Magic Bullet Records will issue the record on both black and clear wax and digital download on November 18th; preorders are live at the label store HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

Track Listing:
1. 4010
2. Away

New release: CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE “First LP” LP | CD | Digital

Now in the webstore : CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE First LP.

First issued twenty years ago, this is the debut LP from the short-lived and highly influential Denver band. We kept the mix the same, but remastered the entire thing so that it’s no longer victim to the compression issues of that era of recorded music.

Track List:
01. Turn
02. Dyed on 8
03. Long Out
04. Lot
05. Pipe
06. Dirt

For the vinyl, we went with three different variations for the first pressing:

The cover layout remains the same (we didn’t even adjust the leading issues with the type) to stay consistent with the original feel of the LP.

The CD version of this album comes in a sharp-looking digipak that is intended to perfectly complement the S/T/”Stereo” CD/DVD we reissued prior.

Copies of the LP and CD are now available in the webstore.

Digital version is available now on iTunes.

HIGHNESS “Gaea (Strings)” song premiere, courtesy of Revolver Magazine

Late last week, Revolver Magazine premiered “Gaea (Strings),” the first song from the upcoming HIGHNESS debut album Hold, along with a short feature on the band. To read the piece, you can check it out on the Revolver Magazine site.

RVA Magazine (out of the band’s partial hometown of Richmond, Virginia) also ran a recent feature on the band, which you can check out on the RVA Magazine site.

Hold will be in stores everywhere on May 14, 2013, along with a reissue of the first LP from singer Eric Richter’s former band CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE. We anticipate it being a rather exciting day for fans of his work.

Now in the webstore : CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE S/T LP.

It’s been some months since we initially reissued this classic, but I’m still sitting here, completely blown away that this one ended up at the label. It was truly the soundtrack to the early years of assembling records and getting Magic Bullet up and running… and it stayed with me through repeated spins over the many years to follow. It’s truly an honor to have this one in the stable.

I believe this is the second pressing of the Magic Bullet edition. This time around we ended up with a few cool colors:

• RED | GREY split

Seems to be an eclectic ensemble, so I trust that at least one of these is going to strike your fancy.

Let’s see… this time around, the covers have a standard finish (first press had a UV gloss finish). There is no bonus DVD in this edition, keeping the early pressing special. The same insert from the first pressing remains unchanged and every single copy comes with an Mp3 download of the entire album at no charge.

Per usual,  we don’t release pressing numbers on our stuff, so please simply choose whichever color(s) you personally dig and please be sure to actually listen to your purchase.

We’ve got another CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE reissue coming in 2013, so stay tuned. Additionally, Eric Richter now fronts a new band called HIGHNESS, which you’ll be hearing a ton about shortly…

Available now in the webstore. Thanks for the support.

Eric Richter (CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE/HIGHNESS) interview featured on Washed Up Emo podcast

Eric Richter recently did a phone interview with Ray Harkins and Tom Mullen of the Washed Up Emo Podcast. During the ~67 minute conversation, Eric goes deep into the origins of his musical experiences both prior and during the heyday of CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE (on top of various other topics and tangents). The conversation does a great job in being both extremely real and  candid. And from a historical perspective, it’s a great conversation for younger people currently involved in creating “underground” music to hear.

The entire conversation can be streamed and/or downloaded from:

In related news, Eric recently played Noise Pop out in San Francisco with CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE. It was a ton of fun and easily the longest CFD set in history (13 songs!). Thanks to all who attended. We’re now in the process of transferring the old recordings into modern formats to continue the process of getting all CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE material back in print.

In the meantime, Eric continues to rehearse with new band HIGHNESS. Rounded out by Andy Buckalew, Brent Eyestone, Graham Scala (all ex-FORENSICS) and Ryan Parrish (ex-DARKEST HOUR), the band is currently working on their first album, due out sometime in 2012.

Magic Bullet 2010 Year-End Podcast Available for Free Download!

As 2010 nears its end, reflection mode has kicked in and I’m realizing what an unbelievable year it’s truly been. If anyone were to tell you that CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE, INTEGRITY, THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS, and CHARLES MANSON would not only have records on the same label, but all in the same year, it’s not very likely that you could envision any scenario where that were possible. And yet that somehow happened. CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE‘s S/T (aka The Stereo Record) was unearthed and remastered, INTEGRITY gave us two of the greatest songs the band has ever written, THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS brought their latest studio record over here (our first certified gold record!), and we somehow locked down four previously unheard CHARLES MANSON records for release.

This was all on top of a band new THIS WILL DESTROY YOU pic disc, a YEARS double album, MADE OUT OF BABIESThe Ruiner finally seeing LP treatment, GHASTLY CITY SLEEP‘s debut full length Moondrifts, MEDITATIVE SECT‘s Laceration Points LP, a letterpress/reissue edition of FORENSICSThings to Do… LP, FORENSICS You Don’t Have to Win, But You Have to Fight, and represses galore.

Basically, a lot of shit went down and I fully understand if it was tough to keep up with everything. As a means to show appreciation and perhaps even make sure that nothing slipped through the cracks in your search for new music, I stayed in (this is not a new phenomenon) and put together a podcast (this is a new phenomenon) featuring about 80 minutes of jams and commentary. You can pull it down from:

It was fun making this and I hope you enjoy listening to it.

Happy Holidays,

Christie Front Drive recognized as “legends within 4 years or less”

Alternative Press has recognized CHRISTIE FRONT DRIVE as one of “13 Bands Who Became Legends in Four Years or Less.”  Other bands sharing the honor are OPERATION IVY, GORILLA BISCUITS, SEX PISTOLS, JOY DIVISION, MINOR THREAT, and others.  You can read the article here.

As you likely know, Magic Bullet Records has reissued the seminal “S/T” (aka “Stereo”) album on LP, CD, and digital download formats.  Each copy of the CD and the LP comes with a  DVD featuring the band’s final 1996 show in Denver and the audio has been mastered for the first time ever.  Pick up a copy in the webstore or via iTunes, etc.

We are currently assembling the next installment – a double LP and CD featuring all remaining material ever recorded by the band.  Look for more information sooner rather than later.
