ZEX: Thirty-Eight-City US Invasion By Ottawa Punks Begins Today

May 06 2015

In support of their debut LP, Fight For Yourself, Ottawa, Ontario-based punk outfit ZEXbegins their most extensive American tour yet, as the US Invasion gets underway today.

With a Fall 2014 tour of Canada, and the Wanderlust Tour through Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand in February and March, ZEX now brings their new anthems to fans across the US with the nearly forty-city US Invasion. Beginning tonight, Tuesday, May 5th in Albany, New York, the trek will trample its way across most of the US, including one show in Mexico, until wrapping-up in Buffalo, New York on June 13th. ZEX will also be bearing their brand new 7” single called “Fear No Man” on the tour.

Fight For Yourself is out now worldwide via Magic Bullet Records on all digital platforms, slipcase CD and now with both black and clear pressings 12” wax. Physical copies of Fight For Yourself can be obtained via Magic Bullet Records HERE, and the digital HERE.

Catch up on the band’s heavy propaganda campaign in support of Fight For Yourself with their official video for “Wanderlust” at THIS LOCATION, “Fight For Yourself” HERE, “Savage City” HERE, and the band’s recent tribute to fallen friend/drummer Vassil Mester RIGHT HERE.

Channeling traditional heavy metal leads into their classic early punk rock approach, ZEX’s Fight For Yourself drops ten insatiably infectious and fully unruly anthems, the album recorded at Meatlocker Studio with Paul Yogi Granger in Ottawa and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland. With a solid fanbase and buzz already going for them due to heavy widespread touring and a diehard worth ethic, the band independently released Fight For Yourself in Canada, which caught the attention of Magic Bullet Records, who officially re-released Fight For Yourself with proper distribution to the international masses.

IDES OF GEMINI: “Carthage” streaming now at Cvlt Nation

Apr 23 2015

Today, IDES OF GEMINI, in cooperation with the sound sergeants at Cvlt Nation, are pleased to undrape the shimmering sounds of “Carthage.” The trio’s latest hymn comes by way of a two-song seven-inch featuring “Carthage” and a stunning cover of Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit,” released via Magic Bullet Records this past weekend in commemoration of Record Store Day.

The lingering tones of “Carthage” inhabit Side A. Commencing with a doomy, acoustic summoning of the spirits of a barren world,  the band goes full tilt into their eclectic brand of overdriven power and command, charging onward and upward through forest and sky, dragging the doomed, sorrowful carcass of humanity itself into light. Written and recorded during Old World New Wave (Neurot/Sige) sessions, the track offers another brilliant moment in the band’s beautifully evolving sound.

Issues Cvlt Nation: “‘Carthage’ feels like I am journeying into another dimension of time; the pounding beat laying the foundation for the haunting vocals and sweeping riffs. What leads this song more than anything is Sera Timms, sounding more powerful than ever. You know when you watch Vikings and you secretly wish you could be in their world? Well, Timms’ voice against Kelly Johnston-Gibson’s rhythmic drums make me imagine I’m a jarl about to lead my band on a Viking in Saxon territory.”

The Carthage/Strange Fruit seven-inch is currently available on limited black wax or clear wax HERE. Desirers of the digitals visit Magic Bullet’s BandCamp page HERE or iTunes HERE.

ANCIENT VVISDOM: New Video Now Playing At Revolver; Tour With Sólstafir Begins

Apr 23 2015

Today, Revolver Magazine offers up the video accompaniment to the track “We Are Damnation,” from occult death rock/folk metal dealers, ANCIENT VVISDOM. The infectious hymn comes by way of the band’s Sacrificial long player, released last year via Magic Bullet Records.

The haunting, silent-film-styled clip was captured by Edmonton-based illustrator, Richard Lukacs, and truly brings to life the inner demons of band leader, Nathan Opposition who offers, “An ancient cult delivered this to me as an offering to the end of the world. We call upon the forces of evil and release this plague unto you.”

Enter damnation, courtesy of Revolver Magazine, at THIS LOCATION.

The video premiere comes in conjunction with ANCIENT VVISDOM’s North American tour supporting atmospheric Icelandic metallers, Sólstafir. The ceremonies commence tomorrow, April 22nd, in Brooklyn and will blanket twenty-five cities, the journey coming to a close on May 20th in Richmond.

ANCIENT VVISDOM w/ Sólstafir:
4/22/2015 The Shop – Brooklyn, NY
4/23/2015 L’ail’ze – Montreal, QC
4/24/2015 Mavericks – Ottawa, ON
4/25/2015 Garrison – Toronto, ON
4/26/2015 Bug Jar – Rochester, NY
4/27/2015 31st St Pub – Pittsburgh, PA
4/28/2015 Ace Of Cups – Columbus, OH
4/29/2015 Pyramid Scheme – Grand Rapids, MI
4/30/2015 TBA – Milwaukee, WI
5/01/2015 Nether Bar – Minneapolis, MN
5/03/2015 Reggies – Chicago, IL
5/04/2015 Riot Room – Kansas City, MO
5/05/2015 Larimer – Denver, CO
5/06/2015 Bar Deluxe – Salt Lake City, UT
5/08/2015 The Pin – Spokane, WA
5/09/2015 Rickshaw – Vancouver, BC
5/10/2015 El Corazon – Seattle, WA
5/12/2015 Oakland Opera – San Francisco, CA
5/13/2015 Los Globos – Los Angeles, CA
5/14/2015 Pub Rock Live – Scottsdale, AZ
5/15/2015 Sister – Albuquerque, NM
5/16/2015 Sons Of Hermann – Fort Worth, TX
5/17/2015 Red 7 – Austin, TX
5/18/2015 One Eyed Jacks – New Orleans, LA
5/20/2015 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA

ANCIENT VVISDOM will be touting psalms from their Sacrificial full-length. Produced by founding vocalist Opposition, engineered by Travis Bonner at The Diamond Factory Studios in Austin and mastered by Paul Logus (Anthrax, Clutch, Hellyeah, Shadows Fall et al) at Taloowa Mastering, Sacrificial finds the collective at once melodic and catchy conjuring dark, penetrating neofolkian hymns of iniquity. Thematically, Sacrificial delves further into Opposition’s personal ascent into the unanticipated enlightenment of exploring humanity’s universal darkness. Whereas traditional lore dealing with the occult, paganism, and Satan himself tends to be heavy-handed (and often synonymous with a proverbial descent away from any sort of positive self-affirmation), Sacrificial spins a slant wherein “down” becomes “up.” In Opposition’s world, confronting one’s own demons and humanity’s primordial penchant toward chaos and destructive ritual will ultimately pass each seeker through a threshold unto which deeper knowledge, sage wisdom, and self-realization envelop one’s consciousness. ANCIENT VVISDOM’s Sacrificial is out now on Magic Bullet Records. BOSS KONG Lets The Humans Soundtrack Vol. II Loose With Exclusive Stream And Feature At Decibel Magazine

Apr 23 2015

Having punished the humans with their rightful ways through initial warnings, primate biker horde, BOSS KONG, has successfully infiltrated the populous with The Humans Soundtrack Vol. II for Record Store Day. While the vinyl incarnation of the recordings on this platter is about to become extinct, the full 7” has been put on antagonistic display for the ditch-dredgers of humanity to endure courtesy of Decibel Magazine.

A segment of the brief Decibel interrogation of simian masterfuck of BOSS KONG, focusing specifically on the B-side Vietnam flashback single, “Viet Kong,” sees the brave mag scribe inquiring, “Who’s worse, music critics or the Vietcong?” Kong’s reply cuts to the dead heart of the matter, offering, “Not much difference, is there? They both pop out of their little holes when you least expect it and try to shoot you in the face. And they’re all Communists.”

Get your full dose of the BOSS KONG cross-examination and the full The Humans Soundtrack Vol. II via the cross-species investigators at Decibel Magazine at THIS LOCATION.

Once its wax supplies are sold out, The Humans Soundtrack Vol. II is out of print in a physical incarnation, but Bandcamp downloads can be placed HERE, and the remaining mailorder physical copies HERE.

The Humans Soundtrack Volume II 7” was created solely for Record Store Day 2015 in a limited, one-time-only run of orange/gold vinyl, the bloody slab’s exclusive cover art and insert art created by creator Tom Neely (Henry and Glenn Forever) for extra scene points. Fans of Boris, Deathspell Omega, and Sonic Youth, this sounds nothing fucking like that. Set in the late 1960s/early ‘70s, “The Humans” is a book about an all-simian biker gang from Bakersfield, California, drinking, fighting, and fucking their way through the turbulent world around them. BOSS KONG is one of the book’s more popular, interesting characters and this installment of the soundtrack series tells tales from the perspective of an ape that’s seen inhumanities both abroad and on the home front. Voiced by a mystery metal figurehead and performed by a cast of mystery stoner rockers, part of the fun of this 7” is trying to figure out who’s behind the music itself. Once revisiting the glory days, two new hash-pipe nightmare rocker jams await, spreading the rampaging demoralization of the Tet Offensive onto coked-up mullet debauchery on The Humans Soundtrack Volume II, like Ponyboy Curtis ten years after he went from gold to crushed Milwaukee aluminum, now leading the outcasts from the Planet Of The Apes into full-on bar-brawl burnout turf of the metal underworld.

BOSS KONG: Bloody Disgusting Debuts “Viet Kong” Single; Magic Bullet Preps 7” For Record Store Day As Simian Slaughter Unfolds

Apr 18 2015

Magic Bullet Records’ latest label acquisition — the simian mercenaries known as BOSS KONG – launch the full-on offensive of The Humans Soundtrack Vol. II tomorrow as an official Record Store Day release, but skirmish has broken out early, and the invasion of the “Viet Kong” has begun, raging through the frontline defenses intent on pillaging your village.

Charlie runs wild through the jungle dawn, Shovel mass graves for the Viet Kong.
Charlie runs thick as the day is long, Gonna get stabbed by the Viet Kong.
Ripping out throats in the hot Mekong, Don’t get fucked by the Viet Kong.
M-60s pierce the night, Special Forces & firefight. Cut loose & cut off heads, Put those Viet Kong to bed.

Early reports on the carnage come in courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, with the ape-drape savagery of BOSS KONG’s “Viet Kong” now playing HERE.

LYCIA: New Psalm From Exclusive Record Store Day Seven-Inch Streaming At Cvlt Nation

Apr 18 2015

Today, Cvlt Nation kicks off the weekend with the cathartic resonance of LYCIA’s “Silver Leaf.” The airy psalm comes off the band’s limited edition, split seven-inch with Black Mare, set for release tomorrow via Magic Bullet Records in honor of Record Store Day.

Hailing from Mesa, Arizona, LYCIA was initially forged back in the late ‘80s and ‘90s, confounding ears their groundbreaking ethereal darkwave sound conjurings. Heavily reverbed guitars, dark, wraithlike keyboard tones, and ominous programmed drums pushed the gothic scene forward as their music inspired Nine Inch Nails, Type O Negative, and many within tangential dark, industrial circles. Their 1995 album, The Burning Circle And Then Dust (Projekt Records) remains a cult hit to this day. With “Silver Leaf,” there is no joy; only an eternity to ponder what’s been done. “Silver Leaf” comes about long after summer is gone, “where bright horizons are hard to find.” All that remains is reflection and memory slipping like sand through worn fingers.

“I feel like I’m floating in darkest space, gliding through the sonic universe of LYCIA,” relays Cvlt Nation. “Allow the tune to guide you at THIS LOCATION.”

The BLACK MARE/LYCIA split will be unleashed on April 18th, 2015 (Record Store Day) and is available for preorder on limited edition black wax and grey swirl at THIS LOCATION. Digital lovers can order the split via Magic Bullet’s BandCamp page HERE or iTunes HERE. The title goes immediately out of print after Record Store Day. Exclusive cover art and insert art by the bands themselves round out this frostbitten slab of wax.

BLACK MARE: New “Low Crimes” Video Now Playing At Noisey; Split With LYCIA To See Release This Saturday

Apr 18 2015

Today, Vice’s music portal, Noisey, offers up the visual accompaniment to BLACK MARE’s “Low Crimes,” a hymn that comes by way of the band’s forthcoming split 7” with Lycia, set for release on Record Store Day via Magic Bullet Records.

BLACK MARE is the dark ambient side project of Ides Of Gemini frontwoman, Sera Timms. On “Low Crimes,” bandmates from Ides Of Gemini and Mustard Gas & Roses (MGR) contribute to an aurally lush, yet glacially-paced cruise through Timms’ frozen world wherein she encourages the mind’s eye to notice relics like the feathers of fallen angels scattered about the snow. Ice crystals form on an old church bell in the distance as the subarctic tones of the composition take over everything in their path. There is no escape and there will be no thaw.

“I was trying to capture a deep, lush underworld feeling on ‘Low Crimes,’” elaborates Timms of the track, “but I wanted there to be a thread of light and softness. My own voice was not providing this, so I ended up having Tara Vanflower from Lycia add backing vocals which gives the vocal parts this perfect ethereal shimmering quality just hovering above the darkness.”

Directed by Timms, the haunting visual journey that comprises “Low Crimes,” is currently playing at Noisey who issues of the tune, “…the slow-burn heroin blues of the track is made even more ethereal with Timms’s vocal, who shifts the song down an even darkly enchanting path. ‘Low Crimes’ is witchy, unique, and ultimately gorgeous stuff, and the video is similarly enthralling.”

Get swept away at THIS LOCATION.

The BLACK MARE/LYCIA split will be unleashed on April 18th, 2015 (Records Store Day) and is available for preorder on limited edition black wax and grey swirl at THIS LOCATION. Digital lovers can order the split via Magic Bullet’s BandCamp page HERE or iTunes HERE.
